Dermoscopy of histoid leprosy: a case report

چکیده
Dermoscopy reveals structures and features invisible to the naked eye, providing additional morphologic information during clinical examination of skin lesions. This diagnostic technique was utilized in the detection of melanoma and other tumors [1]. More recently, utility of dermoscopy has expanded to inflammatory and infective conditions where vascular alterations, color variegations and follicular disturbances are observed [2] Dermoscopic patterns are described in many granulomatous conditions such as lupus vulgaris, sarcoidosis and granuloma annulare [3]. However, dermoscopy of leprosy, is a chronic granulomatous disease, is not described in the literature. Here, we describe dermoscopic patterns in a patient with histoid leprosy (HL).

De-Novo Presentation of Histoid Leprosy on an Unusual Site
Histoid Leprosy (HL) is a rare variant of Lepromatous Leprosy, occurring in long-standing cases, mostly in a background of acquired drug resistance. Patients usually present with sudden onset multiple nodules and plaques, most often involving the skin and subcutaneous tissue of trunk and lower limbs. Here we report an unusual case of de novo (without any history of prior anti-leprotic therapy) ...
متن کاملDe Novo Histoid Leprosy in an Elderly: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Histoid leprosy, an uncommon variant of lepromatous leprosy, develops usually as relapse in lepromatous patients who are on dapsone monotherapy, but uncommonly arises de novo. This rare form of the disease, with unique clinical and histopathological features, may pose a diagnostic challenge even to astute clinicians. We report the case that occurred de novo in an elderly who presented with smal...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Palmoplantar, Genital and Lip involvement in a de novo case of Histoid leprosy
Histoid leprosy is a rare expression of mostly lepromatous leprosy, usually arising due to drug-resistant lepra bacilli in patients on long-term dapsone monotherapy or taking irregular and/or inadequate multibacillary multidrug therapy. De novo cases are also being reported. Although its clinical presentation is characteristic, lesions may not always be classical and on rare occasions, it may a...

He was diagnosed as a case of BT leprosy 10 years ago and now presented with multiple papules and nodules. Histopathological examination of biopsy taken from patch and...

Histoid leprosy is extremely rare in children. Molluscum contagiosum-like lesions in the setting of histoid leprosy is a highly atypical presentation and may signify the process of "transepidermal elimination" in lesions with high bacillary load. A case of histoid leprosy with umbilicated papules and nodules mimicking molluscum contagiosum is reported in a 10-year-old Indian boy.
